Tune in for an hour of music from the mighty Fela Kuti, the founder of afrobeat. My first encounter with Fela Kuti was in the mid-seventies. As a young punk I was intrigued by the funk of Parliament, Funkadelic and, of course, James Brown. But then I came across an album called Up Side Down by Fela Anikulapo Kuti & The Africa 70 on London Records. This record was something else. There were only two songs on it and the whole album lasted just half an hour but what a sound…. And that groove… From then on I was hooked on Fela and bought every record I could get my hands on.
